EARLY YEARS:

 Early years of adulthood are the transition state of a person life from one phase to another. This is the phase where a person gets into the maturity phase and are now able to take their life decisions. Adults are setting goals and get busy in making efforts to comes their dreams true and sometimes adults separate from family members in order to achieve their goals. Some of the men often face reproductive decisions. Women bear children during this age period. This is still the phase where a person requires high calories and a perfect nutrient balance. Depending on the life style of a person calorie requirement changes.

MIDDLE YEARS:

Middle years are the period where the life changing transition occurs in a person life. a person have a family system and to fulfill their enmities a person is struggling. Career involvement includes in this phase. As a person lean body mass starts to lost during this age due to which calorie requirement drops step by step after the age of 50s. also the metabolism of a person also slows down.

OLDER YEARS:

This is the period where a person adjusting itself to retirement and setting itself to new life activities. Most of the people are diagnosed with many medical and nutritional problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, CVDs and many others. Most of the people deceased during this age period. Reflecting todays life style and eating patterns most of the people even do not reach to this stage and the remaining are suffering from chronic diseases. Calorie requirements drop from 1600 from adulthood to 1200 in older adulthood for a sedentary women and 2300-1650 calories .as due to the loss of lean body mass and slows down of all body systems functions and a low physical activity can may lead to low calorie requirements. Fluid requirements remain the same as 8 glasses of water each day. However, nutrient deficiencies are more common due to restriction of food in diets. A balance diet with moderation and variety ensures proper intakes of vitamins, minerals and nutrients need to run the body systems.

As during the early stages of adolescents the increase growth also increases the demands of energy and calories need. It is the period where the calorie requirement of a person are at its peak.. At the peak of adulthood calories and nutrient requirements drops gradually.

Calories:

The total calorie requirement of an adult depend on three factors:

  • Physical activity of a person
  • Basal metabolic rate BMR or RMR
  • Thermic effect of food

These factors are further effected by many factors including age, gender, starvation, BMI, sleep cycle, eating patterns etc. Males requires more calories than females the reason is the they high BMI and they also face a rapid increase in height, weight and lean body mass. Proteins:

During this adolescent’s period no further dramatic change in body structure of a person occurs. So a total protein requirement of a person is to maintain the existing lean body mass of a body and according to the requirements of body systems to function properly. RDA of proteins for the proper functioning of body systems are 10-15%. Under intake of protein leads to the loss in the lean body mass, delay in sexual maturation and growth abnormalities occur. Adolescents can complete their protein requirements through milk, meat, lentils, eggs and their exchanges.

Carbohydrates:

Carbohydrates are considered as the cheapest source of energy for a person body. It accounts for the huge amount to fulfil the calorie requirement in a person diet. RDA of carbohydrates for an adult are 45-65%. Carbohydrate rich food includes vegetables, whole grains, fruits and legumes. Mostly the adolescents are completing their DRI of carbohydrates through the processed carbs including the highly processed beverages, soft drinks, ready to eat cereals, yeast breads, cakes, cookies etc. this type of processed carbs does not contribute to the health status of person as it lost all of its nutritional value instead it may leads to the common chronic diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension etc. over intake of carbs can may lead to obesity as it deposits in the form of fats in body.

Fats:

Human body requires specific amount of essential fats for the proper maintenance of body systems as well as to maintain the growth and development of a person. RDA for fats are 25-35% for a young adult but the dietary guidelines for Americans suggest that a person should not need to consume more than 30% of total calories from fats with no more 10% from saturated fats. Common sources of fats for adults include milk, beef, cheese, margarine, butter, beef etc. Excess amount of fats can may lead to many disorders in a body one of the major is obesity which is considered as the mother of diseases.

Minerals and Vitamins:

Minerals and vitamins are the substances that does not produced in a person body and it also require in a small amount but the adequate amount is very important for the proper functioning of the body. Deficiency of single vitamin and mineral can may lead to many diseases. For example: deficiency of calcium can may lead to osteoporosis, iron deficiency lead to anemia, Vitamin-C deficiency lead to scurvy, Vitamin- A deficiency leads to night blindness. So the adequate amount of these vitamins and minerals are required for the body systems.
