You cannot enjoy the wealth if you are not in your real health.

According to WHO, health can be defined as:

“The state of being physically, mentally and social well being and not merely in the absence of any disease”

Gilgit Baltistan is the area where most of the people are enjoying their organic life styles but this area is in lack of facilities to ensure their health when they get ill and many other problems occur.

Like in GB there are about half of the population which are suffering from many nutritional diagnosis and problems like mul-nutrition is one of the burning issue. As there is majority of the population which are considered as mul nourished because these people don’t have any idea about what to eat, how to eat and when to eat the food so that they can cope the problem of their malnourishment. Even the health sectors of this place do not have the a well improved nutrition section. That’s why the nutrition counselling in this area are very low.

In order to cope this situation there must be a separate enhance nutritional department in the health sectors so that the basic nutritional education is given to each and every person of this region and ultimately the person itself can choose their meals wisely. It may reduced the mul nutrition to some extent.

Keeping in view of all these miserable conditions a group of students from nutrition department of karakoram international university done a survey under the supervision of Dr.Zubair Hussain professor of KIU in order to check the nutritional status of Gilgit Baltistan.

In these areas we get a statistical data on various labels including the health condition, most prevailing disease in GB and the nutritional status of the people that they are well nourished or mul-nourished.

The various results on major nutritional problems that we get after our survey are:

PREVALANCE OF OBESITY IN NAGARAL AREA

This area is also known as blue area Nagaral because in winters this is one of the most coldest areas of GB. In this area of Gilgit Baltistan majority of the families are middle class and some are upper class

and a very few families are lower class. But due Islamic system of zakat these lower class families did not face any difficulty to meet their basic needs.

According to survey nutritional status of this area is considered as the alarming one in which out of 100 individuals 90% are obese, 8% are UNDER WEIGHT and other 2% are in their normal weight. As the people of this area are majorly consuming carbohydrate rich sources (rice, wheat products) and this area have a great interest towards junk food including pizzas, shawarma etc. however, they are having vegetables, legumes twice in a week. Due to this non seriousness towards their dietary patterns most of the people are suffering from obesity.
